1.) Wisconsin Forest Fire Protection (FFP) Grant Program
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) offers the Forest Fire Protection (FFP) Grant Program to help Wisconsin fire departments strengthen wildfire response capabilities through 50% cost-share funding. Grants are designed to support local departments with equipment, training, communication systems, PPE, dry hydrants, suppression tools, and wildfire prevention resources.
Grant Highlights:
- 50/50 cost-share funding
- Fire department grants from $750–$10,000
- County/area fire association grants from $5,000–$25,000
- Funding for PPE, radios, training, ATVs/UTVs, suppression tools, mapping/GPS, prevention initiatives, and more
- Supports wildfire initial-attack and mutual aid response efforts across Wisconsin
Who Qualifies?
Eligible Wisconsin fire departments must have a signed DNR Mutual Aid & Fire Suppression Services agreement (MOU). County and area fire associations may also qualify if they serve organized forest fire control areas.
Annual Grant Timeline:
May 1 — Application period opens
July 1 — Applications due
October 1 — Awards announced
April 15 — Project completion & reimbursement deadline
